What is your art about?

I think my art is about my life but like a dice I throw when I don’t know how else to move forward, just to see where the next step takes me. It allows me to exist in a state of mind where both good and bad events are welcomed. It’s a form of constant progression, but also a way to enjoy the now. Essentially my art is an outlet to express and read my own thoughts to understand life a bit better. A language I can always rely on.

How do you describe your style of drawing?

My style and how i express myself is raw, emotional, full of depth, and at the same time I’m quiet about it, even mystical. For that I can’t have one style. Just rules I set for myself. Blue, white. I work in contrasts, cut corners, break logic. My paintings and concepts don’t have to look perfect or even fit my initial idea. I sense when it feels true enough to the point where there’s no room left to put my brush on. Sometimes it’s better to let the liminal space speak for itself. Too much explanation can ruin everything.

What are themes/figures that you use in your paintings and why?

I like to position my figures and portraits in a poetic, storytelling way, creating space for people to place their own identity into them. The face is blank. It’s a mirror when you look at my pieces. There is intimacy and vulnerability. For me, the human body can carry so much just through posture and how it interacts with the space around it. That alone allows me to say something without saying it.

What is inspiring you?

Limitations within my medium, I would say. While experiences give me the first block to work with, limitations inspire me because they make it possible to innovate. I only work with watercolor and blue, so I have to think outside the box. I use external forces like gravity or wind to move the paint. I use syringes instead of the typical brush and experiment with different surfaces. I go beyond the traditions of watercolor, creating new outlooks and inspiration for others too.

What are your struggles as an artist?

Existing between creativity and the corporate world, it’s important not to trap yourself in a box or rely too much on past success. My art world can sometimes feel very empty, especially in moments when this kind of silence echoes or plans fall apart. My art is my identity. If I don’t take care of it, no one else will. When I drift off that self- esteem, it can be a rocky path to realign with my true self and core values again.

What messages do you want to share?

I feel truest to myself because of my radical way of changing routes that do not align with me. I grew up surrounded by doubt which discouraged me from continuing my art journey and some still do to this day.I am happiest knowing that i‘m exactly where i want to be in life. It takes a lot of thinking and patience to evolve. Think, always think. Do not rely too much on what works. Be innovative, be experimental and live vivid.

What messages do you want to share with the collection?

We live through different hues yet we are all the same blue. The collection for me is meant to feel like phases in life or certain states of mind that are temporary and open to change. Fashion and clothing feel free to me because I’m not dependent on sticking with them forever. It’s for a summer that gives you space to innovate and connect with yourself and the ones around you.
